The Challenge
An enterprise client needed a unified smart home platform that could communicate with devices across multiple protocols -- MQTT, Zigbee, and BLE -- in real-time. The existing system had fragmented device management, high latency in command execution, and no centralized monitoring dashboard. The solution needed to support Samsung SmartThings integration and handle thousands of concurrent device connections.
The Solution
Designed and built a multi-protocol IoT gateway that abstracted MQTT, Zigbee, and BLE communication into a unified API layer. Developed a real-time monitoring dashboard using React with WebSocket connections for instant device status updates. Built a companion Flutter mobile app for on-the-go device control. Implemented AWS IoT Core for cloud-side device management with shadow state synchronization, ensuring devices maintained consistent state even during network interruptions.
